With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.
MILD ORANGE - SOME FEELING
Produced and mixed by the 'mindpop' Dunedin, NZ four-piece's vocalist/guitarist Josh Mehrtens, and taken from their debut full-length 'Foreplay'. Introspective, mellow and flowingly melodic with smooth spoken word intro by guest artist Bena Simanu.
COYOTE - POPPY
Also from Dunedin, NZ, these lo-fi alt-popsters pitch up with this new tune that goes from the off-kilter vocals to raging screams, while toir-tapping drums and infectious guitars cocoon it all - quite well, as it happens.
CHINA ROSES - PIEDATERRES
Chilled pop-electronica from the Adelaide duo - vocalist Jessica Fisher and producer Pietro Filippone (also of Aletro). Fisher's voice is addictively sultry, while the production is precise and understated. The song, says Fisher, "is inspired by love and appreciation for those in your life who believe in what you’re creating. It’s written about surrounding yourself with people that believe in you, and encourage you to fulfil your potential."
FLUIR - CHANGE
Sydney-via-Melbourne's FLUIR (pronounced 'flu-e-air') precedes her debut EP dropping later this year, with this single cut, written and produced with PNAU's Sam Littlemore. Bright, infectious electronic pop, with bouncy synths, snapping percussion and funky beats.
PARADISE CLUB - AWAY
Back to Adelaide for a different kind of sound from this four-piece, with this nostalgic and dreamy new single, after 'Saturday Night' and 'Cap 2', that "deals with relationships and travel. Sometimes you’re on what feels like the other side of the world and can’t be there for the ones you love most. It’s a common circumstance to find yourself in but not always the easiest to talk about. HAIKU HANDS - JUPITER
Creating something of a buzz in their native Australia, this experimental electro-hip hop female outfit from Sydney, are only on their second single, (released on April 17), here - after debut 'Not About You' - but their punchy attitude, and bouncy rhythms with a guitar-filled beat, is flavour-filled. They arrive in the UK next month to play The Great Escape, Dot to Dot and London's Birthdays on May 22.
